On July 4, 2023, the British Embassy Budapest and the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs hosted a joint event entitled „A Preliminary Discussion on the 2023 Russia Report – Chatham House and Hungarian Institute of International Affairs”. The event’s discussants were John Lough, Annette Bohr and James Nixey, associate fellows of the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House. The discussion was moderated by Tamás Péter Baranyi, Director for Strategy of the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs.
After a keynote speech held by H.E. Paul Fox, the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Hungary, the discussants presented the Chatham House Russia and Eurasia Programme’s 2023 report entitled How to end Russia’s war on Ukraine – Safeguarding Europe’s future, and the dangers of a false peace. The presentation was followed by an informal and free discussion of the report’s main statements and proposed ideas regarding Russia’s war on Ukraine and possible strategies for achieving peace. The participants also answered various questions from the audience, concluding a vivid and engaging debate on one of the most important contemporary issues.
