The myth of the first 100 days? Joe Biden’s initial policy steps and their impacts

On April 29, 2021 the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT) in cooperation with the American Studies Research Institute (ASRI) held a conference entitled „The myth of the first 100 days? What Joe Biden’s initial policy steps mean and their likely impact on US-Hungarian relations”. Invited speakers of the conference were Tamás Fellegi, Emeritus Director of ASRI; Tamás Baranyi, Deputy Director of IFAT; Dwight Nystrom, former U.S. diplomat and senior scholar at ASRI; Máté Litkei, Director of the Climate Policy Institute at Matthias Corvinus Collegium. The event was moderated by Balázs Mártonffy, Director of the American Studies Research Institute.

At the conference, the concept of the first hundred days was first critically examined as the participants tried to evaluate how indicative are the first measures of the policies of a future presidency. Then the first steps taken by the Biden Administration was examined from domestic, economic, foreign policy, and climate policy perspectives. At the latter part of the conference, our speakers answered questions about climate policy, major directions of foreign policy as well as the general topic of the Hungarian–American relations.
