Strengthening IFAT relations with Uzbekistan
During the visit of Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó to Tashkent, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISRS) and the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT). ISRS is Uzbekistan’s most important foreign policy research institute, which prepares decision supporting materials for the President’s Office and participates in the development of various sectoral strategies, in close cooperation with Uzbek universities and government background institutions. It is also an important participant in research and think tank networks of Central Asian countries and the countries of the Turkish Council. The cooperation between the IFAT and ISRS includes joint events, publications, researcher exchange programs and the implementation of joint research projects.
As part of the cooperation, the first event was held on 31 March entitled “Uzbekistan and Hungary – Prospects of Bilateral and Interregional Cooperation”. After the greetings of the ambassadors and directors, the conference included a three-session professional discourse on the possibilities of Hungarian-Uzbek bilateral relations, the work and perspectives of the Turkish Council, and the future of cooperation between the Visegrad Group and Central Asian countries. IFAT was represented at the event by our director, Márton Ugrósdy and László Vasa, senior researcher and chief advisor, Central Asia expert, who delivered a presentation on Hungarian-Uzbek economic relations.
