On 30 August, former Brazilian ambassador to Budapest Sergio Eduardo Moreira Lima visited the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade in his capacity as president of the Alexandre de Gusmao Foundation (Fundaçao Alexandre de Gusmao, FUNAG). The visit provided the occasion for Amb. Lima and the director of our institute, Márton Ugrósdy, to sign a memorandum of understanding between IFAT and FUNAG that provides the framework for further cooperation between the two institutes. In his speech after the signing ceremony, Amb. Lima emphasized the merits of Brazilian diplomacy in the curtailing of interstate conflicts in the Latin American region. Answering questions from the audience, Amb. Lima also underlined the importance of Brazilian-Hungarian relations and Hungary’s role as a bridge between Brazil and the European Union on the one hand, and Brazil and the Visegrad Countries on the other. The ambassador also shared his thoughts about the crisis in Venezuela and the Hungarian aspects of the Science without Borders (Ciencia sem Fronteiras) exchange program.
