International conference on the future of Europe
As part of the conference on the future of Europe, International Security Studies Department (ISSD) of National University of Public Service (NUPS) and the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT) organized a conference about the EU security and defence cooperation. The conference on the Future of Europe is a unique and timely opportunity for European citizens to debate on Europe’s challenges and priorities.
The event has been organized in cooperation with IRSEM (Institut de Recherche Stratégique de l’Ecole Militaire) in the framework of La Fabrique Défence. On behalf of IRSEM, La Fabrique Défence has been introduced by Ms Veronica Rodrigo, coordinator at the DG for International and Strategic Affairs.
Welcome speeches has been delivered by Prof. Boglárka Koller, vice-rector for international affairs, and Prof. Anna Molnár, head of ISSD. A special guest of the first panel discussion was Dr. Gergely Németh defence policy director of the Hungarian Ministry of Defence. During the different panel discussions, the audience could listen to various presentations from representatives of European Security and Defence Academy (ESDC) and research fellows from wide-known European think-tanks, such as European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS). Daniel Fiott, Sylvain Paile, Symenon Zambas and Dirk Dubois participated on behalf of the ESDC network. Hungarian MoD has been represented by Dr. Gergely Németh and Katalin Horváth. The militarily neutral, but politically active Austria was also represented by Gen. Johann Frank, director of IFK (Institut für Friedenssicherung und Konfliktmanagement). The conference provided a great opportunity for the students of NUPS’ Doctoral School and other partner institutions such as the University of Liége and University of Lille to share their research findings with the public. Thus, Ph.D candidates, Quentin Loiez, Veronika Hornyák and Capt. Mariann Vecsey were welcome to contribute to the discussion. They were all young professionals affiliated to the ESDC program.
The conference has been organized in a hybrid format, the presentations were available both online and on-site. Approximately 30-40 student visited the Hunyadi conference room in the Ludovika building, but more than 150 people followed the discussion online.
