Hungarian-American Discussion Forum
On 23rd September 2023, the Hungarian Institute of Foreign Affairs (HIIA) organized a closed-door professional panel discussion under the title “Hungarian–American Discussion Forum” with the goal of enhancing the efficiency of Hungarian – American dialogue and providing an opportunity to address contentious issues affecting both countries.
Among the participants, we had the honor of welcoming Dr. James J Carafano, Vice President of the Heritage Foundation, Matthew Boyse, former Deputy Secretary of State in the Trump administration, and a researcher at the Hudson Institute. Our event, conducted according to the Chatham House Rule, was also attended by additional decision-makers, experts, and representatives of civil society who engaged in discussions regarding challenging foreign policy and economic matters.
The first panel discussion revolved around common political interests, the second focused on bilateral relations, with particular attention to energy policy and the infrastructure sector. The third panel delved into defense and security policy, with a special emphasis on NATO-alliance issues.
The Hungarian Institute of Foreign Affairs launched this event with the aim of establishing a tradition, serving as a forum where American guests and Hungarian decision-makers, along with professionals from public service and academia, could strengthen bilateral relations and engage in discussions on global political matters
