„GreenUp”: Israeli – Hungarian Strategies and Ideas on Sustainability

On April 22, 2021 the Embassy of the State of Israel, with the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT) and Startup Campus jointly organized a conference on the occasion of Earth Day entitled „GreenUp”: Israeli – Hungarian Strategies and Ideas on Sustainability.

In the opening remarks, Ambassador Yacov Hadas-Handelsman emphasized that Israel is a net provider of solutions for global problems, and the pandemic could be an accelerator in greening up our economies.

Prof. Yoav Yair, Dean of the School of Sustainability at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzlya held a lecture about climate change in the mediterranean basin. Csaba Kőrösi, Director for Environmental Sustainability of the Office of the President of Hungary talked about the paradigm shift in development from a Hungarian point of view. Then Tom Lahad, representative of SupPlant, shared his thoughts about the newest Israeli technologies in agriculture. Jörg Bauer, President & CEO of Tungsram Group, and Ákos Dervalics, Manager of EIT Urban Mobility RIS Hub Hungary at SC Energy talked about the successes of their respective companies in the field of sustainability. Lajos Barcsa, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen, held a lecture about the SmartCity developments in Debrecen.

The event was moderated by Tamás Péter Baranyi, Deputy Director of IFAT, and he also gave the concluding remarks of the Earth Day event.
