The Conflict in Iran and the Middle East: Further Escalation or ’Grand Bargain’
Following the ceasefire that took effect on April 8, 2026, direct U.S.-Iranian talks took place in Islamabad, with Trump aiming to bring the war with Iran to a close through a comprehensive agreement. Meanwhile, direct Israeli-Lebanese talks are also underway. As a means of exerting pressure, Trump ordered a blockade against Iranian ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The purpose of the roundtable is to address the contentious issues and consider the possibility of either a diplomatic agreement or further escalation.
