Peacebuilding in the Shadow of a War – The Iran War and the Future of the Karabakh Peace Process

A breakthrough in the Karabakh peace process was achieved in August 2025 in Washington, where Armenia and Azerbaijan initiated a peace agreement and announced the creation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). The proposed corridor would connect mainland Azerbaijan with its exclave of Nakhchivan through southern Armenia. It is envisioned not only as a key transportation link, but also as a potential guarantor and stabilizing mechanism for peace between the two countries.

However, the Iran War has cast a shadow over the region—and over TRIPP in particular. The uncertain trajectory of the conflict has stalled progress on the corridor and raises the risk of renewed regional destabilization. How does the Iran War affect peace efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan? What are the main challenges facing the development of TRIPP? What are the prospects for the Armenian parliamentary elections in June, and how might they affect the peace process? The panel discussion will address these pressing questions.
