After joining the European Union and NATO, the Visegrad countries agreed to give support to the Western Balkan countries in the Euro-Atlantic integration process. The current Hungarian Presidency of the Visegrad Group handles the region and its integration process as a high priority. What does the V4 do in order to foster enlargement and how much it really matters? The V4 engagement cannot be analyzed and assessed without the wider European context and without the understanding of motivation of the individual Visegrad countries. The former determines the framework of their actions while the latter has a great impact on the strength of common standpoint. This brief analysis will take a look on these aspects and will highlight factors that could influence the V4’s weight in the EU’s policy toward the Western Balkans.
