The Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Process – From Frozen Conflict to Hot Peace
The sensational news of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan made headlines in August after the leaders of the two countries signed a declaration in Washington. The peace treaty itself, however, has still not been finalized, and there is no sign of an imminent ratification either. Is the conflict truly over, or does the risk of renewed escalation remain? What obstacles continue to hinder the signing of a comprehensive peace treaty?
The so-called Trump Route announced in Washington could upset the regional balance of power—so how might Russia and Iran respond? What could be the outcome of next year’s parliamentary elections in Armenia, and how might it affect the peace process? These are some of the questions that the panelists of the upcoming roundtable discussion will seek to address at the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs.
