Stronger Together: Hungary’s Vision of the V4’s Central European Voice

The first prime ministers’ meeting of the Czech V4 presidency, which started last July, is taking place on February 27 in Prague. The prime ministers will discuss energy cooperation, the migration situation, and strategic issues affecting the EU, as well as the financial background of the International Visegrad Fund. The Czech prime minister said that although there are some issues on which the V4 countries do not fully agree now, this should not prevent them from engaging in dialogue with each other.

It has been proven time and again in history that together these countries can be more successful in tackling challenges. So, what are the ingredients for making a successful V4 cooperation? From the Hungarian standpoint, specific challenges bind together the V4 countries—on migration, on supporting regional agriculture, on energy, and on infrastructure as well as security cooperation. While the platform has grown quieter in recent years, Hungary thinks that it can be revivified around these important common causes.
