70 years of diplomatic relations between Hungary and China – book launch

Hungary was one of the first countries that recognised the People’s Republic of China on 3 October 1949, and three days later, on 6 October, the two countries established diplomatic relations. The Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT) and the China-CEE Institute have jointly prepared a book for the anniversary that is published in Hungarian, in English and in Chinese. IFAT hosted the launch of the Hungarian edition on 12 December 2019 during which two of the authors, Mr. Gábor Péter Boros and Mr. Armin Vincentius Fábian presented the conclusions of their research.

IFAT attends China and Central and Eastern Europe Think Tanks meeting in Beijing

A meeting with the aim of to allow dialogue and exchange of views between think tanks in China and Central and Eastern Europe was held for the third time. The previous conference was held in Budapest, and was organized by the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT). The first meeting was held in Poland (Warsaw) in 2016.

Lectures and meetings of Dr. László Vasa in Tokyo

Dr. László Vasa, chief advisor and senior researcher of the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade visited Japan again where he delivered a university lecture, made a keynote at a closed discussion panel and met leaders of IFAT’s partner institutions.

Arab Spring 2.0? – Roundtable discussion on the recent waves of protests in the Arab region

On December 2, 2019, the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade held a roundtable discussion entitled “Arab Spring 2.0?” with the participation of László Csicsmann (Associate Professor at Corvinus University of Budapest and Associate Research Fellow of IFAT), Elias Dahrouge (Doctoral Candidate at Corvinus University of Budapest), Erzsébet N. Rózsa (Professor at the National University of Public Service and Associate Research Fellow of IFAT) and Omar Sayfo (Associate Research Fellow of IFAT). The event was moderated by Máté Szalai (Senior Research Fellow of IFAT and Assistant Lecturer at Corvinus University of Budapest).

Regional economic cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe

The Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT) held a conference entitled ‘Regional economic cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe’ on 25 November 2019. The event also gave the opportunity to Georgios Mitrakos, Director General of the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) and Márton Ugrósdy, Director of IFAT, to sign the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between their respective institutions.

Hungarian experience in EU integration

In cooperation with the Hungarian Embassy in Pristina, the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade organized its penultimate conference within the framework of the Hungarian Cultural Season 2018-2019 in Pristina on 20th November 2019. The event, entitled ‘Hungarian experience in EU integration’ aimed to share the lessons learned and good practices from Hungary’s EU accession, mainly from an economic and agricultural perspective. The conference brought together experts from local ministries and EU institutions.
