On 13 April 2023, Pascal Boniface, founding director of the Paris based French Institute for International and Strategic Affairs (IRIS), was invited to the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT). The International Relations Professor of the Institute of European Studies at the University of Paris-8 has been working as the editor of the quarterly published International and Strategic Review from 1991, and from 1985 as the editor of the Strategic Yearbook, he is the author of many famous books and one of the most popular contemporary geopolitical analysts.
Mr. Boniface held a confidential discussion with the management and the research fellows of our Institute and with experts of international issues. During the meeting, Pascal Boniface has analysed the global geopolitical trends, the previous background and the possible consequences of the Russian-Ukrainan conflict above all. He highlighted among others that in his opinion, the greatest loser of the war is Europe, but the future events may bring change. The French researcher talked about China’s position, its influence on world politics, and challenges. He underlined that Asia is an inescapably important continent in terms of the future’s international relations. At the end of the nearly two hour-long relevant discussion, Pascal Boniface and the attendants agreed on that there is a need for these meetings, where honest disputes can happen, and it is particularly important that the European think-tanks analyse international processes by assessing the geopolitical reality, without being ideologically influenced.
