IFAT’s associate research fellow, Gergely Varga PhD, participated in a panel discussion entitled “What kind of security system need for Europe?” (Welche Sicherheitsarchitektur für Europa?) organized by the Swiss Forum Ost-West in Bern on November 17.
In addition to our associate research fellow, Pälvi Pulli, Swiss State Secretary responsible for defense policy, Dr. Jeronim Perović, professor at the University of Zurich, and Dr. Henrik Larsen, senior research fellow at ETH CSS, discussed the geopolitical consequences of the war in Ukraine for Europe, moderated by Andreas Ernst, journalist of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. There was an agreement among the panelists that the war brought about a radical change for Europe, and that the European countries must assume greater responsibility in guaranteeing their security, but with regard to the future relationship with Russia and the initiation of peace negotiations, the different positions of Switzerland, Sweden and Hungary were perceptible.
