As an aspiring middle power, Hungary needs to be aware of how economic growth, power realignment, and geopolitical reconfigurations are happening. One such movement is the spectacular comeback of the Mediterranean. Large-scale regional infrastructure development along its perimeter is a clear sign of this tectonic shift. When the IMEC project was announced in 2023, it seemed as if the balance of power was shifting towards the eastern Mediterranean, relegating the western half to a secondary role.
