Mátyás Szilágyi received his degree in diplomacy from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). He worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) of Hungary between September 1989-June 2022. At MFAT he worked at the Department for Balkan Countries in the Romanian Division, at the Department for Eastern Europe in the Central Asia and Caucasus Division first as Desk Officer, then Deputy Head of Department and finally as Head of Department. As a Diplomat he worked at the Embassy of Hungary to Romania between 1991-1997, at the Embassy of Hungary to Luxembourg between 2002-2006, at the Consulate General of Hungary to Cluj-Napoca (Romania) between 2008-2012 as Consul General, at the Consulate of Hungary to Berehove (Ukraine) between 2018-2021 as Consul General, and at the Embassy of Hungary to Chisinau between 2012-2017 as Ambassador.
