Post-Soviet space, the Balkans and the international aspects of the protection of national minorities István Íjgyártó graduated at the Faculty of Philology of the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest in 1988. In 1991 he was a visiting fellow in the US Congress by joining the staffs of Congressman Tom Lantos (D) and Senator Arlen Specter (R). He held different positions at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Government Office for Hungarians Abroad and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as ambassador of Hungary in Romania (2000-2004), in the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan (as non-resident) (2010-2014) and in Ukraine (2018-2023). Between 2014 and 2018 he was in charge of the cultural and science diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade as a state secretary. He is the author of several publications concerning history,  protection of national minorities and Eurasian geopolitics. His main areas of research are the post-Soviet space, the Balkans and the international aspects of the protection of national minorities.
