The Hungarian Institute of International Affairs (HIIA) publishes its English-language journal, the Foreign Policy Review (FPR), annually. In 2024, on the occasion of Hungary’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, HIIA invites authors from Hungary and abroad to contribute to its thematic FPR volume on Hungary’s role, presence, and engagement in the Western Balkans.
We are seeking submissions on the following, multidisciplinary themes:
· Hungary’s Heritage in the Balkans
· Western Balkans as Hungary’s Foreign Policy Priority
· Hungary as a Bridge between the Western Balkans and the European Union
· Hungary’s Role in the Euro-Atlantic Integration of the Western Balkans
· Connectivity and Regional Cooperation between Hungary/V4 and the Western Balkans
· Role of Hungary in the Western Balkans’ Political Developments
· Western Balkans as an Economic Opportunity for Hungary/Europe
· Security and Stability: The Role/Contribution of Hungary in the Western Balkans
· How Hungary’s Presence in the Western Balkans is Perceived by EU Member States, the USA, and the Countries of the Western Balkans?
Submissions are not limited to the list of themes, and authors shall find their subtopics within the proposed themes.
We are announcing this Call for Papers to provide an opportunity for researchers, academics, and PhD candidates to share their views on the multifaceted relations between Hungary and the countries of the Western Balkans, including Croatia. Young scholars are also encouraged to apply.
We are looking for original, previously unpublished academic papers, with a length of 40.000 characters to be published in the FPR in the Fall of 2024. An honorarium of €1,000 will be offered to authors.
Timeline
· November 12, 2023: those interested in contributing to the issue, should send their maximum 500 words abstract to fprbalkan@hiia.hu
· November 19, 2023: decision on the preliminary acceptance of the abstracts
· April 14, 2024: deadline for the submission of full papers
· May 19, 2024: decision of the double-blind peer review process
· June 30, 2024: revised papers are due
· Fall, 2024: publication of the FPR (print and online)
All manuscripts must be referenced according to the APA format. Submissions without proper references will be automatically rejected. All submissions will go through a double-blind peer review process, and we provide feedback for every author. Copyediting and proofreading will be provided by HIIA as the editor of the volume.
HIIA reserves the right to reject the publication of any paper without prior notice. HIIA does not keep and return manuscripts, but we try to ensure that even the papers which do not get published in the printed volume, have an opportunity to appear on our other series.
