Analysis by Dženita Šiljak
The aim of this analysis is to provide an overview of a complex political system in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a small country with 3,500,000 people, five presidents and 7,488 candidates who took part in the recent election. It is one of the poorest countries in Europe, but with the aspiration of becoming an EU Member State someday. The paper starts with a short introduction of the country’s administrative units and institutions, followed by the country’s progress towards European Union membership. The third section analyzes the problems that should have been in focus during the election campaign; high unemployment, low FDI inflow, emigration, high poverty rate, corruption and a complex and unstable political situation. Finally, the last two sections present the new members of the Presidency and what the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina can expect in the next four years.
