On 21 February, 2023, the Foundation for Minorities – Pro Minoritate and the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade hosted the presentation of the autumn (Rijeka) and winter (Balkans) 2022 thematic issues of the Pro Minoritate journal. At the event, editors of the volumes – Márton Pelles, Hungarian Museum of Technology and Transport and András Klein, Ambassador of Hungary in Skopje – and László András Kósa, Editor-in-chief of Pro Minoritate presented the latest issues.

In his welcome speech, Zsolt Németh, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, emphasized that both thematic volumes fill a significant gap in Hungarian Balkan studies. The issue on Fiume is a trace of the common Hungarian-Croatian history, which can also be a cornerstone of good neighborly relations. Regarding the Balkans volume, the President said that the Western Balkans is the region where the European Union can be a decisive factor, and thus it is important that the EU enlargement continues. The lobbying role of the V4, and more broadly of Central Europe, however, in the context of the Western Balkans enlargement is not being heard in other EU capitals. The main message of Mr. Németh was that Hungary must maintain its commitment to the region and to Croatia; it is in our economic, national political, security and cultural interest.

The thematic issues were presented by the editors and the editor-in-chief of the journal, who expressed their unanimous delight at the young researchers who contributed to the publication of the issues. The authors of the winter issue of Pro Minoritate include Julianna Ármás, Ferenc Németh and Cintia Viola, Research fellows at IFAT as well as former IFAT Senior Research fellow, Dr. László Márkusz.

The thematic issues are available on the website of the Pro Minoritate journal.
