Antonia Ferrier, vice-president for external affairs of the International Republican Institute (IRI) visited the Insitute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT) on 18 November 2022. She arrived with her colleagues, head of the Budapest IRI office, Andrea Keerbs, and senior IRI advisor, Amb. Réka Szemerkényi, former Ambassador of Hungary to the US.

Antonia Ferrier analyzed US midterm elections in 30-40 minutes, covering the major campaign topics, which influenced the outcome of the voting. She described the current political program of Republicans who won majority in the House, but lost the Senate, and the potential change in US foreign policy. According to her, the American society is tired of extremism, the woke ideology and trumpism. This is a good opportunity for Ron de Santis (Rep.) governor of Florida to became the new GOP candidate for the next presidential race. Donald Trump however announced his return as a candidate of Republican primaries in 2024. The US supports Ukraine unanimously, and she does not see any change in this issue, regardless of the results of the midterm elections.
