Study by Gergely Varga
The recent negative developments in Europe’s security environment and the internal dynamics of the European Union have led to significant changes in European security and defence policies. In this context, the goal of a Europe able to react to geopolitical changes and capable of defending itself on its own has become a recurring theme in European political discourse. The main objective of this two-volume study is to examine and evaluate recent European defence initiatives, placing them in a political and institutional context.
The first part of the study examines the political-strategic context of the European defence initiatives and its relation to NATO, followed by an in-depth analysis of the political and institutional conditions of creating a European army.
